wibblylever: (Aroo: Aroo!)
I wish you guys could see my cat right now. Marvin is a long-haired Ragdoll, and his fur is thick and fine. I can brush him 'till the cows come home and he still gets matted. He's also got a serious case of fleas, from where I don't know (he's strictly indoor).

Normally, once the weather warms up or his fur gets long enough to start matting, I have him shaved down. I'm having trouble finding a local cat groomer however; the vets won't do it unless he needs to be sedated, which he doesn't, and the groomers I have managed to locate want $150-175 to bathe and shave him. Oh, hell no.

He's miserable, and the fleas are starting to make him sick, so today I took drastic measures. I bought flea shampoo and a shaver for dogs. There's no point in bathing him while he's matted because the shampoo won't penetrate the snarls, so I shaved off the worst of them and cut away the rest. He looks pretty punk right now. The shaver got too hot so I had to stop, and I don't think it's actually going to be powerful enough to shave him completely (thank goodness for Petco's return policy). But I think he's at least more comfortable and I can bathe him and get most of the fleas off. My boss's neighbor works for a vet and is bringing me some Advantage.

But poor Marvin! He's sulking around my bedroom, meowing mournfully, fluffy everywhere but his backside, which is smooth and velvety and pink.

Lol forever.
